Sunsets at Rye
Engagement rings are sometimes the most enjoyable projects I get to make. It’s an exciting time and there is a lot of secrecy, timing and covert ring sizing that needs to take place. It’s a bit like being a secret agent who is part of covert undercover operation.
Gary approached me about making a ring for his proposal to Rose well in advance of his planned date. This gave us enough time to develop the design and source the right stones. He wanted to use an ethically mined diamond but wasn’t sure what else to include. I suggested Australian blue sapphires would be a beautiful accompaniment. As an Australian himself, he loved this suggestion. All five stones are set in 9-karat rose gold using a ‘cast in place’ technique. This is where the stones are set in the wax and the casting of the metal happens with the stones in the investment. For more technical information on how this process is done, click here.
Once the ring was finished Gary proposed to Rose on the sandy beaches of Rye, their favourite beach, and the one where they met, some 7 years ago. Ruby said ‘YES!’ and so began the next exciting chapter of their lives. Congratulations guys!

“Laura was attentive and really listened to what I wanted. She is very friendly and easy to deal with, communicating through the process with sketches, test models and the finer details. I would highly recommend Laura for any jewellery with a personal touch. It makes it all the better knowing its made from reclaimed silver!”
“I loved the experience of dealing with Laura. Her assistance and guidance in the development stages of my custom made bangle was wonderful and her correspondence was greatly appreciated.”
“I met with Laura to discuss commissioning a custom made sterling silver headpiece for my wedding. Everything in the shops seems so mass produced and I wanted something truly special. Laura asked all the right questions and created exactly what I wanted. She kept me informed the whole way. The end result was so beautiful, more than I could have ever imagined!”
