Family of Hearts
I met Elaine and her beautiful family at a friend’s wedding. Some weeks later she contacted me to discuss the possibility of me designing a ring that would symbolised her family. We spent time chatting via Skype and email, talking about what jewellery she liked. I did some sketches and discussed the different materials that I can work in. I really enjoyed the process of talking with Elaine and working closely with her to finalise the details of what she was looking for. My challenge was to bring these together to create a ring. I adore this part of my profession. Being able to work closely with great clients to create a piece that they will treasure for a lifetime.
Elaine loved the hearts, so I decided to create four of them to represent her family. Two small ones in 18 carat yellow gold, connected to the band, to represent her children; and two larger ones in 18 carat rose gold to represent her and her husband. Each of the hearts is unique, all created in one movement, never to be created again – the perfect representation of her family.
With the assistance of a professional caster, I cast the two materials separately and soldered the two types of gold together. Sometimes the most classic and simple designs can be the most powerful in their symbolism. A unique ring to represent a one-of-a-kind family.
“Laura designed and handmade our very special wedding rings. We both love having our beautiful ‘one of a kind‘ rings”
“I am so delighted with the ring Laura designed and made for me. It exceeded my already high expectations! It was great to work with such a thoughtful professional who uses environmentally friendly materials and practices”
“My partner and I engaged Laura with the task of commissioning a unique piece of jewellery. Laura was loosely briefed by my partner and totally took the concept and ran with it. Communication was forthcoming with frequent updates along the way, including illustrations and photos of concepts. The final product blew all involved away! Couldn’t recommend Coral Covey any more thoroughly!”
