Coral Covey Jewellery Care

Here are some tips and tricks to keep your Coral Covey piece looking gorgeous.

Sterling silver jewellery will naturally tarnish with time. Keep your jewellery in its box when you are not wearing it. The natural woollen felt will reduce the likelihood of tarnishing. However, if your piece has tarnished, you can return it to its original lustre with the following options:

  • Wear it more. Wearing a piece will naturally polish it.

An easy cleaning process:

  • Place the jewellery in an aluminium bowl (or line a bowl with aluminium foil).
  • Fill the bowl with hot water.
  • Add equal amounts of salt and baking soda (e.g. one tablespoon of each).
  • Let it sit for about five minutes.
  • Stir occasionally.
  • Rinse and rub dry.

If you have purchased a darker, grey piece with an oxidised finished it is important to remember that this may change with time. The higher points will continue to rub and expose the silver underneath. This blackening process that can be reapplied – please contact me for details.

I advise customers to remove your jewellery before these activities:

  • gardening or cleaning (some household chemicals can damage metals or stones)
  • applying beauty products. (makeup, perfumes, shampoo and conditioners can tarnish metals)
  • showering or swimming (soaps, chlorine & sulphur baths can tarnish metals)
  • playing sports (perspiration can tarnish metals)
  • sleeping (to avoid damage to fine chains)

Some chains used with my pendant are ultra fine. Please be mindful when dressing to avoid your jewellery becoming caught on items of clothing.

Workshops

Thanks for your interest in my Ring Making Workshops. These are a really fun way to make your own wedding bands or make a ring for a friend.

For this particular workshop we need two half days of approx 3-4 hours. I will guide you both through what is possible, and then I assist you in carving the rings for each other.

– In the first class, we will meet at my workshop in The Nicholas Building and I will size you both and teach you both the art of wax carving the ring to the correct size.
– 2-3 weeks later, at the second meeting, you will learn to file and finish the rings together using classic jewellery techniques, tools and materials.
– You are not required to have any prior skills, materials or tools.
All of this is provided for you.

My price for the two half days is $790. Please note this is for both of you and that these are weekdays, however this does not cover the cost of the rings.

The price of the ring itself will be determined by three factors:
– material
– finger ring size
– band thickness
