Andriy spent over four months researching jewellers and engagement ring designs before reaching out to Coral Covey. From his very first email, it was clear how much he adores Hayley. He spoke about her with such pride — not just about what she does, but about who she is.
He wanted a ring that felt genuinely special. Something distinctive, beautiful, and thoughtfully and ethically made.Something that reflected the one-of-a-kind human he was about to propose to. Andriy later flew from Sydney to Melbourne for the day to meet Laura in person and finalise the design, a testament to how much this piece mattered to him.
Hayley has always loved off-cut sapphires in green–blue tones, so the design began with sourcing the perfect Australian sapphire.
The chosen stone is a 2.995ct freeform cut Queensland parti sapphire, hand cut to follow the natural shape of the rough sapphire. This phenomenal gemstone was hand mined in the Gemfields in central QLD. It showcases layered tones of teal and olive with flashes of yellow that appear as the light shifts.
Laura set the sapphire on a slight angle, allowing the organic silhouette to lead the design. On the right-hand side, a sculptural cluster of white diamonds alongside the sapphire, each secured in mixture of organic claws and milgrain settings. On the opposite side, a single round diamond sits in a delicate milgrain setting.
One of the diamonds in the cluster holds particular significance - an heirloom stone from Andriy’s grandmother’s ring, carrying family history into this new chapter.
This piece was hand carved in 18-carat classic yellow gold, chosen for its warmth and timelessness.
