Hugh and Keely’s love story spans continents—beginning in Australia, where they first met while Keely was on a working visa, and continuing in the UK, where they now call home together.
Before moving overseas, Hugh visited Laura in person, hoping to design an engagement ring that would capture their journey and his love for Keely. At first, he wasn’t sure which design direction to take, but after their chat, he had the time and space to reflect, eventually reaching out months later with a clearer vision.
With emails exchanged across time zones, Hugh worked closely with Laura to refine the design, even sketching out his own ideas and referencing some of her past creations to help bring his vision to life.
Hugh knew Keely wanted a three-stone ring with a light green sapphire as the centrepiece. Based on his specifications, Laura sourced several options, and Hugh selected this stunning 0.97ct oval-cut Australian green sapphire, complemented by two Australian champagne diamond side stones.
Flanking the gemstones, hand-engraved waves and coral details bring depth and movement to the design—an organic, tactile tribute to Keely’s love for beachcombing and fish-spotting. Hugh, aware of her love for the ocean and sunsets, wanted the ring to reflect these elements with subtle, meaningful touches. The warmth of the Australian champagne diamonds, paired with the rich 18-carat yellow gold, evokes the golden tones of a sandy beach at sunset.
When Hugh proposed, Keely was over the moon—completely in love with her ring and the meaning woven into every detail. A love story written in gold.
This ring came gift packaged in a wooden box made by the New Zealand team at GIVE. These guys make special bespoke wooden jewellery boxes for Coral Covey from sustainable forest woods with care, quality and workmanship.
