JC and Moriah have known each other since pre-school in the Philippines, sharing vivid early memories together. Years later, they reconnected in Australia, growing closer before eventually building a life together in Melbourne.
JC reached out to Laura from Coral Covey after discovering her work on Instagram. From the beginning, he approached the process with care, taking time to reflect on each design decision to ensure the ring felt right and truly representative of Moriah. The entire piece was designed and organised by JC as a surprise — Laura never met Moriah during the process.
The brief was for a hand-carved, custom-made ring that felt colourful, ethical, and wearable, without being too chunky. The design draws from several Coral Covey pieces, bringing together organic leaf settings with subtle sculptural forms.
The ring was hand carved and made in 18-carat classic yellow gold, using 100% recycled and refined material.
A bright green 1.35-carat pear-cut sapphire from Tomahawk Creek, Australia sits at the centre of the design, hand cut by lapidary Scott Langford. Two pink-purple sapphires sit on either side, creating a vibrant palette of yellow, purple, and green tones.
Leaf and coral embellishments were hand engraved across the top third of the ring. These coral details extend into the claws and beneath the gemstones, adding more detail and texture. The remainder of the band has a soft polished finish to maintain comfort and wearability. A hidden engraving sits on the inside of the band, kept as an extra sentimental surprise.

This ring came gift packaged in a wooden box made by the New Zealand team at GIVE. These guys make special bespoke wooden jewellery boxes for Coral Covey from sustainable forest woods with care, quality and workmanship.
Laura also includes an authenticity certificate with every ring, detailing the carat and quality of the precious stones and metal as well as special care instructions.
