Jacqui approached Coral Covey looking for something a little different.
Her first wedding band was a plain Damascus steel ring due to work requirements, and for her next piece she wanted something more formal, sparkly and expressive.
She was drawn to natural motifs such as leaves and trees, as well as vintage and fantasy-inspired elements like stars and unusual gemstone cuts. She wanted a ring that could stand on its own while celebrating a new stage of life.
The centre of the design features a remarkable freeform Australian parti sapphire.
This sapphire was intentionally cut to create an open “window” through the gem, allowing light to pass through while revealing beautiful blue and yellow parti colours.
This window cut was more than a stylistic choice. It allowed Laura to hand engrave tiny stars directly into the metal beneath the sapphire. When the stone is viewed from above, the engraved stars appear through the gemstone itself, creating the illusion of stars captured inside the sapphire. It’s a detail that feels very magical.
Around the centre stone are four round brilliant blue sapphires, set using a mix of organic claw and textured flush settings.
The ring was hand carved in 18-carat recycled and refined white gold and finished with rhodium plating for a bright, white shine.
Laura also engraved a small fern motif on each side of the band, reflecting Jacqui’s love of natural forms while keeping the design balanced and wearable. Inside the band are three paw print engravings, a personal detail chosen for Jacqui and Liam.
