Ben is a psychoanalyst who works with children and adults. Ash left the American South six years ago, taught English to kindergarteners in China, studied women's fertility, trained as a tantric yoga instructor in India, qualified as a doula, and now cares for two little girls in Melbourne while training in craniosacral therapy. They met in May. By the second date, Ben already knew.
It was a walk by the river that did it — where Ash, who is naturally reserved, began to open up. Where two people who both believe in unconventional lives, in nature, in music, in the possibility of something different, found they were looking in the same direction.
They are not people who do things by halves. And so this ring was never going to be ordinary.
Hand-carved in 18-carat classic yellow gold from 100% recycled and refined material, the ring is rooted in the earth and the natural world that anchors them both. At its centre sits a stunning 2.29ct freeform Australian sapphire from Rubyvale, Queensland, locally heated and cut by The Stone Alchemist in WA — a stone with real character, presence and depth. On one side, a pear-cut Montana sapphire in blue-green, and on the other, a warm pear-cut champagne diamond, each held in organic claw settings. The combination of stones creates a palette of greens, blues and yellows that feels quietly alive — like light moving through water, or a mountain morning just after rain.
The result is a ring as layered and considered as the people who inspired it — one that carries a whole world of meaning without needing to announce itself.
Congratulations, Ben and Ash. Here's to the creative and beautiful life ahead.
