Mich and Ash first discovered Laura’s work at the Finders Keepers Market and reached out when they decided to get engaged. Both Ash and Mich planned to propose to each other, intending to discuss their initial ideas together, but ultimately leave the gemstones and final design decisions as a surprise.
In their initial emails with Laura, they shared what was important to them in the design process. Ash sent through a few reference images of past pieces Laura had created. Each inspiration image shared a common theme: a three-stone ring with an organic claw setting—a signature of Laura’s work.
Ash had a clear vision of her dream ring, so when Mich visited Laura alone, they felt confident in their ability to create something special for Ash.
Mich chose a truly one-of-a-kind sapphire as the central piece for Ash’s ring. This 1.07ct free-form cut parti sapphire was ethically hand-mined in Rubyvale, Central QLD, and cut by Scott from Langford Gems. What makes this sapphire exceptional are the distinct blue colour banding and the silk inclusions, which make for a striking and beautiful focal point. The central sapphire is flanked by two round brilliant cut Australian sapphires, all set in 100% refined and recycled 14-carat yellow gold.
After much discussion, both Mich and Ash decided that an engagement watch felt more suited to Mich, so they focused their energy on creating Ash’s bespoke ring with Laura. They are both excited to return to Laura to design their wedding bands in the future.
This ring came gift packaged in a wooden box made by the New Zealand team at GIVE. These guys make special bespoke wooden jewellery boxes for Coral Covey from sustainable forest woods with care, quality and workmanship.
Laura also includes an authenticity certificate with every ring, detailing the carat and quality of the precious stones and metal as well as special care instructions.
