Luiza first reached out to Coral Covey with the idea of creating a surprise ring for Jodie to mark a meaningful moment in their lives. With their five-year anniversary approaching, a trip to Brazil planned to visit family, and a baby on the way, Luiza wanted to design something special to mark these momentous occasions.
From the beginning, Luiza was drawn to Australian sapphires and freeform cuts. Jodie’s connection to North Queensland, alongside her interest in science and geology and her family’s history in the opal trade, made an Australian sapphire feel especially fitting. While Jodie was not involved in the design process, Luiza worked closely with Laura over video calls and email to shape the final design.
The ring was hand carved and custom made in 18-carat rose gold, using 100% refined and recycled material. The form is classic and symmetrical, with subtle twists that give the piece its own character. It features a stunning 1.02-carat Australian freeform green sapphire sourced from The Rush in Queensland and was hand cut by The Stone Alchemist. The sapphire is flanked by two white diamonds, one round and one pear cut.
The gemstones were set in organic claw settings, and inside the band, the ring was engraved with “LM & JK” and a lily flower, a lovely personal touch.
Designed as a wearable, everyday ring, this piece was created to mark a shared chapter and the beginning of a new adventure together.
