As an avid diver, John feels at home in the ocean. When his mum contacted me to request a custom piece for his birthday, I was excited by the idea of creating a custom made piece of jewellery for an adventurer and leaped into the brainstorming process. It needed to be sturdy and durable to withstand John’s adventurous lifestyle. The Manta Ray is his favourite animal and he has spent endless hours travelling all corners of the globe to dive with these majestic creatures, so this seemed like the perfect place to start.
I engraved Manta Rays swimming around the surface of the metal with a message ‘for John’ engraved on the back. I then chose an industrial strength cord so it would be fit for an adventurer. This piece is made from 100% recycled sterling silver with a brushed and blackened surface, created with a natural sulphur oxide.
