Mark and Joanne are some of my oldest friends. The two met many, many moons ago and to say it has been true love ever since would be the only way to describe it. They understand each other, they are romantic, affectionate and patient with one another – their love is the reason we all keep searching. When they asked me to make their wedding rings I felt completely humbled and determined to make a set of rings as romantic as these two. But how?
Joanne wanted diamonds and classic 18 carat gold as a material, however Mark preferred a simple band and the understated colour of platinum. How could I make a set of wedding rings with a shared connection from totally different materials, in different styles, sizes and thicknesses? Then, it occurred to me… what if Joanne’s ring could sit inside Mark’s ring?! I carved out Mark’s ring to hold Joanne’s. The ultimate snuggle ring.
I carved both rings by hand from wax, then a process called Lost Wax Casting was used to create the solid metal rings. I set five diamonds into Joanne’s ring with a star setting and finalised both rings with a brushed matt finish.
