Steve designed this engagement ring in secret for Riy, collaborating with Laura both in person and via email. Living in Brisbane, he made the decision to take a covert trip to Melbourne to meet Laura in person, visit the Coral Covey studio, and dream up Riy’s future engagement ring together.
Riy had previously shared a link to one of Laura’s past creations, Enchanted Love, along with inspiration images that all featured large green Australian sapphires. With this in mind, Steve felt confident choosing a gemstone and design that would speak to her style. He also wanted the ring to reflect more than their love, and to embody a shared philosophy: a physical representation of their commitment to support one another and become greater than the sum of their parts.
The band was thoughtfully crafted as two joined bands that subtly weave in and out, supporting the setting while remaining integrated within the form of the ring. This gentle interplay represents their journey, described as “follow the thread, but only two, us two coming together.”
The two sapphires were hand fossicked in Scrub Lead, Central QLD, and the warm champagne diamonds were sourced from the Australian Argyle mine. All gemstones are fully traceable and ethically sourced. Each stone was carefully set in Laura’s signature organic claw settings, in 100% recycled and refined classic 18-carat yellow gold.

This ring came gift packaged in a wooden box made by the New Zealand team at GIVE. These guys make special bespoke wooden jewellery boxes for Coral Covey from sustainable forest woods with care, quality and workmanship.
Laura also includes an authenticity certificate with every ring, detailing the carat and quality of the precious stones and metal as well as special care instructions.
