Kyall and Charlie are Sydney-siders who made a weekend trip down to Melbourne to visit Laura's studio in person. They came with the intention of creating an extra special engagement ring that paid homage to their heritage by integrating blossoms native to their hometowns in China.
Laura centred this design around a 0.51ct hexagonal-cut white diamond, crafting a distinctive cluster with two additional white diamonds and a C1 champagne diamond nestled around the central gem. The hexagonal cut, a rarer cut to come across, added an exciting challenge to both the sourcing and design process of this piece.
Laura worked closely with both Kyall and Charlie throughout the design process. This piece features details flanking either side of the gems that represent them both: Kyall chose the Bombax cotton tree from Guangzhou, her hometown, and Charlie chose the Ixora Blossom from his. Thorough research ensured these elements were accurately translated into metal, capturing their significance in the final piece.
It's not unusual for one person in the couple to initially contact Laura to discuss their desires, and then secretly arrange a consultation for their partner. In such cases, Laura provides a surprise gift voucher that can be presented to the significant other. This voucher details the consultation's time and date, adding an extra touch of excitement to the surprise!
This piece was made using 100% recycled and refined 18-carat white gold. You can find out more about the importance of using recycled materials here.
This ring came gift packaged in a wooden box made by the New Zealand team at GIVE. These guys make special bespoke wooden jewellery boxes for Coral Covey from sustainable forest woods with care, quality and workmanship.
Laura also includes an authenticity certificate with every ring, detailing the carat and quality of the precious stones and metal, as well as special care instructions.
